With other members of his family doing battle in Florida, Argentina and England on green, manicured fields, Haydon Dunkirk (Haydon Tourmaline-Murrabong Victory) headed to south-western Queensland to win “Best Horse” at the 2013 Quilpie Polocrosse Carnival.
If you travel further west the next stop would be Birdsville. Played by Jess Osborne she made the trip with Dunkirk from the Darling Downs to the outback venue. She has enjoyed great success with him previously winning awards and consistently playing A Grade. He adapted well and excelled in the clay pan surface and dust at Quilpie.
Jess says, “He has been playing the 3 position and he really enjoys the defence side of it but his calling is a 1 for his quick change of pace and unbelievable smarts. I have numerous people each weekend ask about him and if I will sell him. I kindly say “Not a hope in hell”. He opened some eyes out there and had a lot of questions about his breeding.” Congratulations Jess.
His dam Haydon Tourmaline is a full sister to international mare Haydon Angel Jewel by Haydon Drawn and she has been a good broodmare for the stud. Her first filly Haydon Victoriana played in the 2010 Argentine Open and she has another five fillies coming through all showing real promise.
